Keep weight of boxes manageable
Don’t overload boxes, especially cardboard ones that may easily break. To help achieve this, pack heavier items in smaller boxes.
Clearly label boxes
Write in LARGE the room allocated for the contents. Labelling the side will be visible even if boxes get stacked. List the most important contents.
Get someone to look after children and pets
Your attention is going to be needed elsewhere so call in help to keep kids and animals entertained and safe.
Keep important documents with you
Passports, ID, Tickets, house documents – keep them all together, and preferably close to you. Even a well organised move can seem chaotic and easily overwhelm; if you have to find something really important during the move you’ll be glad you planned.
Take meter readings
Water, Electricity, Gas – make it easy and just take a photo on your smartphone for each meter. This will also give you a record of the day taken and any serial #s for the meter.
Leave enough time to clean up
There’s no place for dirt to hide in an empty room. Make sure you give yourself time to clean once each room is emptied.
Pack overnight bags
The last thing you want when you arrive is to be hunting around for clothes and toiletries – make sure they are all with you, preferably in one bag.
Tea & Coffee
Don’t underestimate your need for a cup of tea at the end of moving, and that next-morning coffee.
