An expanded testimonial from Liam – one of our recent clients.
I’ve just bought my home, contracts have been exchanged, and time is ticking down to the big day. I’m going to show you how removals near me didn’t move me to tears.
I’m about to move out of my four-bedroom home. Moving home doesn’t have to be stressful and scary. There is an easier way involving removals near me that weren’t even on my radar!
So, here I was, in the woes of moving. Both mine and my partner’s accounts weren’t particularly well organised . . .
Let’s just say we like to fly by the seat of our pants! We’re a bit chaotic at that best of times, and with three kids in tow, I knew there would be a fair bit of moving involved. I had opted to hire a seven and a half tonner and was going to drive that myself . . . and pack it myself . . . and unpack it . . . and shift the kids . . . and the animals as well.
One thing that made life a lot easier was searching for removals near me.
Along with your stamp duty and solicitor fees, it’s well worth factoring in the cost of removals near me when you buy a new home. For me, it helped ease the pressure on the big day. We set aside around £700 to move the contents of a two-bed property up to 10 miles around. We estimated it would cost £900 for a three bed and approximately £1,050 for a four-bed home to the same distance. The removals near me even offered to help pack for around £300.
Here’s some advice that the experts at Pitman’s have parted with.
We use special packing materials. Things like white paper, tissue paper, bubble wrap, but when we wrap something up, we wrap them very carefully. All the packing material we use absorbs the shock when something’s moved. The key to it all is to ensure that the box is full. As soon as you have a gap in the box, something can move around, and it can get broken.
If you take something apart, make sure you keep all the bits together. Otherwise, you’ll get there, and the leg of your table will be missing the screws. For any successful move, it’s so important to plan. You probably don’t realize how much stuff you’ve accumulated over the years! We suggest you declutter and throw out things you won’t need in your new home.
Make sure you’ve let all your utility companies know your moving date. Royal Mail can redirect your post for up to 12 months after you’ve moved. We also suggest numbering your boxes and indicating what goes where in your new place via a numbered copy of the floor plan. Share this with your removals company, and unpacking will be a breeze as they’ll know which box goes in which room.
Now, for those smaller but by no means less important items, removals near me don’t think it’s fair to ask them to be responsible. Anything like your passports, your credit cards or any cash, jewellery or heirlooms – you know those really important things – put them in a safe place. Either keep them in a backpack and keep them with you at all times, take them to a friend’s or put them in your car. Just make sure you don’t leave these valuables in your old house!
Remember, moving day can be exhausting – no matter how well you’ve prepared. We recommend packing a box of essentials that will get you through your moving day. Some snacks, some tea, some coffee, maybe some teaspoons? Things like this or a meal that you can heat that night – anything. So long as it helps ease the day’s pressures because you will get thirsty, you will get hungry, and you will get knackered!
If – like me – you’ve got kids, then they should play at a friend or family member’s home for the day. Likewise, pets. However, there are a few more things to remember to keep your furry friend happy. Ensure your dog’s bedding and toys are one of the last things to pack. Having something familiar will keep them calm during the move. Update their microchip with your new address and attach a new tag in case they make a break for it on moving day. Then, once you’ve moved, DON’T wash your pet’s bedding for a few weeks, so they have some familiar smells in your new home.
With the last few items going into the van, it’s almost time to make your move. When you arrive at your new property, check everything is in working order first. Ensure you know how the boiler and thermostat work or you may face a chilly first night in your new home. Locate where the water stopcock is in case there’s an unexpected leak and get to know the fuse panel – in case you’re suddenly left in the dark!
Once your furniture has arrived at your new home with the boxes taken to the right rooms, you’re nearly done. However, after the stress of a big move, we think it’s important to reward yourself for a job well done – be it a glass of bubbly or the inaugural takeaway. Housewarming treats are the best part of what can be a chaotic process, but with removals near me, we can make it run pretty smoothly.
The devil’s in the details!
– Ensure your utilities are sorted before you move
– A careful hour’s prepping can save 5 hours unpacking
– Remember your essentials as well as your security box
– Use marked floor plans, marker pens, stickers and more.
