A time to move into your new home, the words we all want to hear and now it all begins. Moving house is at the number one spot of the stress list for triggering anxiety so to help prepare for this here are some useful points to reduce the stress considerably:
- It’s easy and sometimes necessary to focus on what you are leaving, to say good bye to a chapter in your life. A great thing to do is to look at the good things about where you’re moving to. A new job, retirement, or just the country side – Make a new place you new home!
- Keep checking your ‘Check list’. Make a check list – Utilities need notice, rental notices, banks, defrosting the freezers etc.
- Make a Moving plan, things like which room certain furniture will be going in.
- Things that are important on the removals day itself – read the meters, have your check list (Don’t forget to pack teddy!!). Being realistic, don’t leave yourself without the facilities to make a cuppa – it’s a long day for everyone.
- Belongings, before the packing starts. This could be a ideal time to give away to charities. Charities love to receive good quality items. When packing its always a good idea to start with the none essential items first like the attic and the garage – Its properly where most clutter is found in homes.
- Moving with Children can be a nightmare, one situation is getting them involved in packing boxes or asking if your remover has some old boxes so that they can enjoy making airships or a large castle.
- Pets. Having pets in kennels is possibly a good idea, excited animals and children in a environment where there is deadlines to meet can cause some problems, again speak to your remover and get a plan with them.
- Change of addresses, make sure you have given time to make all arrangements regarding moving your home. Banks, insurers, Post office, let friends know your situation.
- One thing that gets forgotten about more than ever, to make a clear description on the box (if you are packing yourself) of the relevant rooms ie bedroom 1, bedroom 2 , lounge etc – with a basic description of what is inside. It helps the removers place it in the right room and also helps you find what you are looking for.
- Next door neighbours, a polite knock and explanation that you are moving home can really help on moving day.
