But what’s best about hiring a man and a van near me?
But what’s best about hiring a man and a van near me?
1. Good value
We might be cheap, but we’re also professional and flexible. If you find that you need extra help with the packing, disassembly, and unpacking on the day, you’re usually able to negotiate on the spot.
2. Comprehensive
We don’t just handle only houses or office removals. We also take care of packing services, transportation for heavy musical equipment, and even storage services.
3. Peace of mind
A professional man in a van near me carries insurance coverage for your goods and any accident you may have along the way. If you hire an entire team, you don’t need to lift a finger.
4. No hidden costs
Friends and family doing all the lifting and shifting, might seem cheaper until you add up the costs . . . there’s fuel, the deposit, and the risk of damaging a rented van – to name a few.
5. Convenience
Booking is easy and you can usually clarify any issues directly with the ‘man’ before the day of the move. There’s no need for them to visit you to check if the quote was right.
Here’s what I should do before moving with a man and a van near me
Here are some questions you should ask yourself before doing anything else . . .
– Do I have enough boxes?
– How will I protect my breakables?
– Which items of furniture can be dissembled?
– How long will it take?
– Will the large items fit in my new place?
– And will they fit through doorways and down hallways?
– Do I have the manpower?
– And perhaps most importantly – where did I put the kettle?
And yes, we are serious – lots of customers are kind enough to offer our removal staff a brew – and then remember that they’ve packed the kettle. And it’s not just our staff who find removals thirsty work – when you arrive at your new place, you’ll probably want a cuppa too. So a good general rule for kettles is: last in – first out.
Mirrors & Glass
From time to time, we get jobs where a large mirror, glass framed picture, mirrored wardrobe or glass top table needs moving. You must make sure these items are safely wrapped in protective bubble wrap – the more, the better. However, tightly we pack things in the van, they will still move around, especially if there are any potholes in the road (and let’s face it, we’re in England). Any movement increases the risk that valuable and delicate items will end up chipped, cracked or completely smashed.
Moving from a Flat
Moving from a flat and it’s on the first floor or above? It will save a lot of time if most of your belongings are brought downstairs ready to be loaded in the van. However, some items are too heavy or awkward to be moved without help. We still recommend you try to get as much stuff into the main hallway as possible. Doing so will mean that things can be loaded as soon as we arrive.
Dismantling Furniture
If you have any furniture or units, etc. try and dismantle it before your man and a van near me arrives. This will save you time and money. We can do this for you and even reassemble them in your new home – but it takes time and costs money. If you do it yourself, it’ll help reduce your final bill.
Large Items & Bulky Sofas
It sounds obvious, but if you’ve ordered a large item – like a sofa or wardrobe – make sure you’ve got the correct measurements for both the item and the doors. Also, think about corners – will the item go around them? It’s surprising how many people don’t think of this and end up with a sofa that won’t fit in their home. Sofas won’t usually dismantle, but a lot of other large items like desks and wardrobes will. So, if in doubt, take them apart. It’ll save time, money and grief.
Help from Volunteers
We get a lot of bookings for just ONE man and a van. We’re told extra people will be available at the pickup and drop off to help with the lifting and packing. We’re absolutely fine with this, but removal work isn’t as straightforward it might look. Okay, your volunteers may give you a helping hand in exchange for a few beers or a favour owed in future. However, in our experience, untrained helpers can do more harm than good. They can damage goods by packing or carrying them incorrectly, chip paintwork or even cause injuries to themselves. Getting large items around corners requires strength and skill, so make sure your volunteer helpers are strong, fit and know what they’re doing.
Part House Moves
If certain items are being moved from a house, ensure everything that needs to be moved is ready, and someone is around to supervise the loading. If you don’t do this, there’s a real danger of confusion; with the wrong items taken and/or left behind. Our staff are skilled, but they’re not psychic! It’s YOUR responsibility to make sure we collect the right things.
Protecting your Floors
Excessive foot traffic, heavy objects and dirt tracked in from repeated trips outside can lead to dirty, damaged floors. This can worsen if the fickle British weather worsens with rain or snow. It’s not practical for movers to take shoes on and off, so it’s a good idea to put down newspaper, cardboard or old sheets to protect your floors and carpets. This will also protect them from sharp edges and splinters, which can scratch floors and snag carpets. For carpeted areas, floor protection is particularly important. The last thing you want after a busy day of moving is to spend all evening scrubbing marks from carpets!

The majority of local removals will be carried out in one day.
